The expanded version of The Stanley Parable has been delayed for a third time, this time to early 2022. Originally, the game was supposed to be released in 2019. One of the developers says that the project has grown over time, so it took longer to develop.
The makers say the game’s content is now ready and the game is being prepared for release on PC and consoles. Co-developer Davey Wreden says on Twitter We can’t give a concrete release date yet, because the game needs more playtesting to make sure there are no bugs or other issues in the game.
In addition, the console versions still have to be certified and a suitable release period still has to be chosen. For example, early next year, especially in February, many other games will be released. Wreden says he does not want The Stanley Parable: Ultra Deluxe to be snowed under by those other games.
The Stanley Parable: Ultra Deluxe was announced in 2018 for a 2019 release and has been pushed forward every year since then. The game will be an expanded version of The Stanley Parable, with new endings and new choices. The game’s features include visual upgrades, translated in-game lyrics, colorblind options, and ‘content alerts’. Kevan Brighting, the narrator in the original, returns for the extended version and has recorded additional lyrics.
Wreden says the expansion’s script is longer than the original’s script and that the Ultra Deluxe version will be “surprising” to players of the original, too. The Stanley Parable is a satirical game that revolves around office worker Stanley and is full of unexpected twists and turns. Originally, the game appeared as a Half-Life 2 mod. A standalone version was released in 2013. It is not clear for which consoles the Ultra Deluxe version will appear and how much it will cost. Both the extended version and the original remain for sale.
