Steam gets option to adjust loading order of Workshop mods

The Steam Workshop will receive several new features. Users can now adjust the order in which mods are loaded, among other things. It will also be possible to temporarily disable individual mods by unchecking them.

Valve announces the Steam Workshop changes in a blog post. The features are available now in the Steam beta and will be available to all users at a later date. After the beta update, users can manually drag and drop the order of mods in a game’s properties, under the Workshop submenu.

It will also be possible to have the loading order of Workshop mods automatically adjusted by Steam itself. This is then based, among other things, on dependencies that mods have with each other. The correct loading order ensures that the mods can work together well. Any dependencies that are not installed are now also shown in the interface.

The installed Steam Workshop subscription page view can now also show more information, such as when a mod was last updated, when the user installed it, and the dependencies the mod has.

Users can try out the new Workshop features by installing the Steam beta. This is available in the Steam settings under ‘Interface’. Users can find a menu there to participate in client betas. It is possible to go back to the release version of Steam in the same way. It is not known when exactly Valve will release the features to all users.
