Starfield will receive an update in early 2024 that adds AMD FSR3 frame generation and Intel XeSS upscaling, developer Bethesda confirms. The company is also still working on maps of cities and the game will have “all new ways to travel” in the future.

Bethesda Game Studios writes on social media that FSR3 and XeSS will be added to Starfield early next year. The game has already had support for AMD FSR2 upscaling since release, which will soon be upgraded to version 3. The game previously also received support for Nvidia DLSS 3 via an update. There is no form of Intel XeSS upscaling available yet. the game.

FSR3 adds frame generation compared to version 2. This interpolates additional frames between two traditional frames, increasing the frame rate. This is combined with AMD Anti-Lag+ to limit the resulting extra latency. Frame generation can be combined with traditional upscaling, where the game is rendered at a lower resolution and then increased to a higher resolution using machine learning. That should further increase the frame rates.

In addition, Bethesda says it is continuing to work on popular features for Starfield. This includes, for example, maps for cities. The company is also working on ‘completely new ways of traveling’, without elaborating further. These features will eventually be rolled out with a ‘regular cycle’ of updates. The studio expects to release an update approximately every six weeks, with possible minor hotfixes in between.
