Space game Star Citizen has raised $600 million through crowdfunding. The milestone was reached this weekend, less than a year after the game raised half a billion dollars. The game has been in the works since 2012 and is funded through crowdfunding.

The counter on the developer’s website now stands at more than 600 million dollars, equivalent to approximately 556 million euros. Those donations come from 4.7 million users. That is not the full amount raised, because private investments have also been made that are not public.

Star Citizen has been in development since 2012. Then a crowdfunding campaign from the space MMO began. The game is not finished yet; it is still in alpha phase. Developer Cloud Imperium Games also does not want to say when the game will be ‘finished’ or whether that will ever happen. The last time a significant crowdfunding record was achieved was in September last year. It then turned out that the makers had raised more than half a billion dollars with the game. That was ten months after the game had raised $400 million.
