Sony will release a new in-car infotainment system, the XAV-AX100 receiver, in Europe at the end of December. The so-called ‘media receiver’ has bluetooth and can handle both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

The media receiver has a capacitive 6.4″ touchscreen with a resolution of 800 by 480 pixels and measuring at the front 17.8 by 10 centimeters, or double-din. On the left side of the screen are three physical push buttons for home, forward and backward. In addition, the display features a rotary pushbutton with various functions, such as giving voice commands when held down.

The built-in amplifier has four 55W channels. To ensure that sound does not sound dull when speakers are in doors or behind the dashboard, Sony uses the so-called Dynamic Stage Organiser. This system could adjust the signal so that the speakers appear to be incorporated in the dashboard.

Furthermore, the sound can be adjusted via an equalizer with 10 bands. In total, the system has three output channels to which additional amplifiers or subwoofers can be connected if desired. A reversing camera can also be connected to it and there is a USB connection on the back. Sony announced the in-car system internationally in August and is now reporting that it won’t be available in Europe until late December. The US suggested retail price is $499 and according to Sony Benelux, the price will probably be around 500 euros.
