Sony is investigating a possible cyber attack on Insomniac Games, the developer behind, among other things, the recent game Spider-Man 2. A ransomware group called Rhysida says it has stolen data from the studio. The data would be auctioned from 1.9 million euros.

Rhysida has published documents proving the hack, writes the Australian Cyber Daily. This also includes details about Insomnianc’s upcoming Wolverine game, including a screenshot and character art. Internal emails, files and personal documents of Insomniac employees have also emerged, including a number of scanned passports.

The ransomware group has given Insomniac seven days before all data is published, Cyber Daily reports. However, the data would now also be auctioned with a starting price of 50 bitcoins. At current exchange rates, this amounts to just over 1.9 million euros.

Insomniac owner Sony confirms to Eurogamer that the company is investigating the potential hack. “We are aware of reports that Insomniac Games has fallen victim to a cyber attack,” the company said in a statement to Eurogamer. “We are currently investigating this situation. We have no reason to believe that other divisions of [Sony Interactive Entertainment] or Sony are affected.”

The U.S. Department of Justice and the Cybersecurity & Infrastructure Security Agency published a document together in November about Rhysida, The Verge also notes. The group’s focus includes gaining access to internal VPNs with stolen credentials, especially at companies that have not enabled multi-factor authentication. Hackers from the group also used it in the past Zerologon, a vulnerability in Microsoft’s Netlogon Remote Protocol. However, it is unknown how Rhysida would have gained access to Insomniac’s systems.

Insomniac Games is part of PlayStation Studios. The company is known for the Rachet & Clank and Spyro series, in addition to a number of recent Spider-Man games. The company also announced last year that it was working on a title based on Wolverine, although few details are available yet. That game also does not have a release date yet.
