Sony comes with 15mm thick 75″ UHDTV and releases HDR update
Sony is launching a 75″ TV with UHD resolution that is 15mm thick. The price of the TV with Android TV is 5999 euros. The device supports HDR playback and Sony also brings this functionality to UHDTVs already released this year.
The Bravia X91C is not curved, optionally stands on an aluminum base and has thin screen bezels, but is particularly notable for its small thickness of 15 mm. Sony has equipped the TV with a processor the company calls “4K Processor X1” that scales content “to a resolution of almost 4k.” Sony hopes to have found a temporary solution to the lack of 4k video, although it remains to be seen what the quality of the upscaling is. The device also runs Android TV and includes HDMI 2.0 support. The television will be available in mid-September for 5999 euros.
More new UHDTVs will follow later this year. For example, there will be the Bravia X80C that comes in a 49″ and 55″ version and which also gets the 4K Processor X1. There will also be the S80C with image sizes of 55 and 65 inches, which is slightly curved.
At the same time, Sony reports that it will provide more UHDTVs with HDR support. That should happen later this year for the X91C, X90C, X85C and S85C series. The devices receive the update via the network. Earlier, Sony announced that the X94C and X93C series will receive HDR support. HDR support ensures that with videos that support it, the bright parts of scenes are considerably brighter than with TVs without HDR, which should look more realistic.
