Some Telltale games are disappearing from Steam in the run-up to studio closure

A number of Telltale games have been removed from Steam ahead of the game studio’s final shutdown. The Telltale versions of Back to the Future and Tales of Monkey Island are no longer available for purchase from the online game store.

GameDaily.biz reports the removals. Whether other Telltale games will also be removed from Steam is unclear. That would depend on who owns the distribution rights and when the studio’s doors are finally closed. Telltale is working with an outside company to liquidate all properties and pay off creditors.

Not every franchise controlled by Telltale will be removed in a similar manner. For example, the game The Walking Dead: The Final Season is completed by Skybound. The Walking Dead is one of the studio’s most well-known game series.

In September of this year it was announced that the studio would close its doors and that 250 people could go home immediately. The studio had already made a round of layoffs in 2017 in an effort to improve its competitive position.

Games that are removed from Steam cannot disappear from someone’s Steam Library. A game that a player has purchased can always be downloaded from the Steam servers, whether it is in the Store or not.
