Anonymous: 25643 submitted a story about the release of Ximian Evolution 1.0. A final release of this Microsoft Outlook clone for Linux and Solaris. This program allows the user to use the Exchange Server under Linux or Solaris in the same way that Outlook does. However, a plugin has to be downloaded/purchased for this. This is not yet entirely clear. The Register has posted an article about this online.

Ximian, long an open-source software company, will do business the proprietary way with a new software package that lets Linux computers connect to Microsoft Exchange email servers.

Ximian has supported the open-source Gnome desktop software project for Linux computers for some time; indeed, Ximian co-founder Miguel de Icaza was the founder of Gnome. And in a culmination of its open-source efforts, Ximian on Monday released Evolution 1.0, a clone of Microsoft Outlook that has support for e-mail, contact lists and calendars.
