Software Update: Netscape Communicator 4.74 is Out

Spread the love

Wildhagen was the first to announce that Netscape has released a new version of Communicator 4.7. Daredevils can try to make ‘m here from Netscape.com to take down. Unfortunately this resulted in my Netscape 4.73 crashing twice (how ironic…). It is probably wiser to go the safest way via ftp.netscape.com:

– Netscape Communicator 4.74 – MacOS

– Netscape Communicator 4.74 – Unix

– Netscape Communicator 4.74 – Win32

What’s New in This Release (4.74)

  • All platforms: Communicator allows you to expunge all mail folders and subfolders (for both IMAP and POP mail servers) whenever you quit the program. To set this preference for your mail server:

  • Choose Preferences from the Edit menu.

  • Open the Mail and Newsgroups category and then select Mail Servers.

  • Select the mail server you want and click Edit.

  • For POP servers, select the POP tab; for IMAP servers select the IMAP tab.

  • Check the box at “Clean up all folders on exit.”

  • Click OK, and then click OK again to confirm your changes.

    • Mac OS: Communicator includes the option of using Internet Config to determine which application handles a link when you click it. To enable Internet Config:

  • Choose Preferences from the Edit menu and open the Navigator category.

  • Check the box “Handle links with system-specified helper applications,” and then click OK.

    • Support for Macromedia Flash Player 4.0 is now available for Linux and Solaris.

    • WinAmp MP3 player v 2.6 (Windows)

    • RealPlayer 7 (Windows)

    • Support for the Linux 2.2 kernel

    • Stuffit Expander v5.5 (Mac OS)
