For the well-known enconder Lame a frontend has been developed with the name LameFE, version 2.2 beta 5 has been released. The program is described by the makers as follows:
lameFE is a frontend for lame. It provides a simple user interface for the lame encoder. It can encode CD Digital Audio, Wave Audio (wav, aiff, au) and Monkeys Audio (APE) to mp3, OGG/Vorbis, APE and Wave. It is extendable through an own plugin interface[break]The release notes inform us of the following changes:[/break]Beta 5. Bug fixes mainly. The Batch-album-backup-mode is now available for Public testing. Added some new Performance settings. Optimized Compilation for more speed (On my system I could increase the ripping and encoding speed by nearly 50%)!
