The first update for version 4.5.0 was released on Tuesday. from the KDE Software Compilation. This popular desktop environment, which consists of the Development Platform, Plasma Workspaces and Applications components, is primarily developed for Linux, FreeBSD and Solaris, but there are also versions for Windows and Mac OS X, although they are somewhat less advanced in their development. The KDE Software Compilation comes with a standard desktop, including a variety of applications, including a personal information manager, multimedia and network management programs, and games. In version 4.5.0, the emphasis has been on improving usability, performance and stability. In this update, which has been given the name ‘cronjob’, the following improvements have also been made:

KDE SC 4.5.1 brings a number of improvements:

  • Stability issues in some of the platform components have been fixed, notably in the new shared data cache, in KHTML and in KNewStuff.
  • Improvements to the ergonomics of moving applets inside Plasma panels.
  • Listing of UPnP devices in the network:/ KIO slave has been fixed.
  • KWin, the window and compositing manager has a regression fixed that would prevent desktop effects from being used.
  • The weather and news applet now correctly update their data when the network connection comes back.

the changelog lists more, if not all improvements since KDE SC 4.5.0.
