RG writes: “From the GNOME desktop, the first desktop alpha of version 2 has now appeared, codenamed “Rolig Liten Hattgubbe”. GNOME 2 brings a lot of improvements over version 1. Mainly improvements of a technical nature, but also a whole series interface improvements Gnome can now display text in all languages, is more accessible for the disabled, has a better appearance by default (including anti aliased fonts), and so on.
Gnome 2 can be installed alongside Gnome 1.4 as long as your Gnome 1.4 installation uses the latest libraries.”:
