Software Update: Firebird 1.5.1

Spread the love

Let’s immediately clear up a still existing misunderstanding: we are not talking about the browser Mozilla Firebird, which used to be called Phoenix but has now been known as FireFox for several months. We’re talking about the open source database Firebird, which for simplicity is released under the Mozilla Public License but has nothing to do with the Mozilla project at all.

Those who haven’t clicked away by now will probably want to know that Firebird has recently been able to include version 1.5.1 in its release history. The new version fixes a lot of bugs that appeared in version 1.5, they are here all together again.

Firebird is a relational database offering many ANSI SQL-92 features that runs on Linux, Windows, and a variety of Unix platforms. Firebird offers excellent concurrency, high performance, and powerful language support for stored procedures and triggers.[break]The new version of Firebird is available for download as source codebut for Linux users is already like RPM package available. Binary releases for other operating systems are unlikely to be long in coming.
