Spread the love

Point Clark Networks recently released a new beta version of their ClarkConnect 3.0 software package. This is a complete operating system that can turn any normal PC into a dedicated gateway and easy-to-use server. All the usual features are present, such as a firewall, intrustion detection system, Apache web server with CGI, PHP and SSL support, file server with FTP, Windows and AppleShare, mail server with POP, IMAP and SMTP, built-in web proxy filter, print server with support for Samba and of course DHCP and DNS services. This release features the following changes

We’re calling this the “Beta 1” release even though some features are still under development. The following features did not make it into the latest build — the features are either missing, or simply rebuilt using the old 2.2 version:
    • Samba advanced configuration
    • Reports
    • PPTP VPN kernel module
    • Upgrade to 2.x
    • Speakup support

Bonus Feature

Though not listed on the roadmap, a new MySQL module is available. This module uses MySQL 4.0 and phpMyAdmin (integrated into webconfig).
