Software update: Caliber 3.43

A new version of Caliber has been released. Caliber is an open source e-book management program and is available for Windows, Linux, and macOS. Among other things, it can look up all relevant information and cover images, and convert e-books to make them suitable for the various types of e-readers. Furthermore, the program can convert newspapers, magazines and news articles based on RSS feeds into e-book format. Books can also be purchased with Caliber at the well-known web stores. Lately there are less frequent updates and this is because Kovid Goyal is currently spending a lot of time on the migration to Python 3. In version 3.43, the following improvements have been made:

New features

  • Kobo driver: Support for new Kobo firmware
  • Edit metadata dialog: Remember relative sizes of the cover and comments editors. Close tickets: 1828291.

Bug fixes

  • PDF Output: Fix hang when converting some documents.
  • Handle newlines when serializing to csr files. Close tickets: 1827198.
  • Fix searching in manage tags throws away all changes. Close tickets: 1828986.
  • Fix a regression in the previous release that broke using the wireless device driver with the device_for_template option.
  • Fix metadata download from Amazon stripping accents from comments text in the binary builds.
  • Amazon metadata download: Fix some downloads failing when a mobile user agent is randomnly selected. Close tickets: 1827027.
  • LRF Input: Fix a regression that broke parsing LRF files. Close tickets: 1826970.
  • PDF Input: Workaround for pdftohtml not always producing valid UTF-8. Close tickets: 1830568.
