Adobe has via a press release announced the first public version of Flash Player 9. It is to be exact version 9.0.16.0 and is via this link download for Mac OS X and Windows. Using Flash Player, it is possible to view and play Flash content – mainly SWF files – created with Flash authoring tools. Popular video sites such as Youtube and Google Video, for example, use Flash to allow visitors to play videos within Flash Player. The developers at Adobe have not specified exactly what the changes are in Flash Player 9.0.16.0, but the press release does contain the following passage:
Flash Player 9 achieves up to 10 times faster performance through ActionScript 3.0 and a new ActionScript Virtual Machine (AVM), which features a Just In Time (JIT) compiler that translates ActionScript bytecode to native machine code for maximum execution speed.
