Samsung has presented a tracker that works with lte-m instead of bluetooth. This means that the user does not have to be around to locate the tracker. The device is currently only available in the United States.

The tracker is compatible with Samsung’s smartmath platform SmartThings, reports the manufacturer . This allows him to give a signal when he leaves a certain location. That signal can, for example, cause devices to automatically turn on or off when the user enters or leaves.

Because the tracker works with lte-m, Samsung has closed deals with American providers for functionality. Lte-m is a low-power version of the existing 4g network and operates on a small part of the existing spectrum for 4g. Because lte-m is made to process little data, the small battery in the device lasts for a week, the manufacturer claims.

However, users have to pay for access to the lte-m network. That is the first year included in the purchase price of $ 99, but then users have to pay $ 50 per year. The tracker is from AT & T and Verizon in the United States. Nothing is known about a possible release in Europe
