Samsung introduces a micro-SD memory card with a capacity of 256GB
Samsung comes with a micro-SDXC memory card with a storage capacity of 256GB. The ticket will be on sale from June for a suggested retail price of 249 euros. The read and write speeds are a maximum of 95 and 90MB/s.
The 256GB card will be included in the Samsung EVO+ series and will use Samsung’s v-nand memory chips. Samsung claims that the card works with ‘more than a thousand’ devices, but does not specify that claim. The memory card is probably recognized in all devices that support sdxc memory. In combination with the Samsung Galaxy S7, the storage capacity is good for twelve hours of video material in 4k resolution, or 33 hours in full HD format at 60fps.
With a price of almost 1 euro per GB, the new memory card is much more expensive than alternatives with a lower storage capacity. Samsung’s own micro-SDXC card from the EVO+ series with a capacity of 128GB is for sale for less than 50 euros. The alternative from Sandisk with a capacity of 200 GB, currently the micro-SD card with the highest storage capacity, has a web store price from around 90 euros. However, the new card from Samsung complies with the UHS-I U3 standard and is faster on paper than the cheaper alternatives.
