Xiaomi would like to release the Mi 8 in August for just under 500 euros. That claims a German telecom journalist. The Mi 8 was released in China this month. There would be two variants, both with a RAM of 6GB.

One version has a storage of 64GB, while the other has 128GB, claims Roland Quandt from WinFuture. Quandt has often released correct information about smartphones and their release in recent years, although he has also been wrong on a few occasions. WinFuture has the information of a Swiss distributor which is not mentioned by name.

The prices would amount to 549 and 599 Swiss francs, currently converted about 475 and 520 euros. Xiaomi does not officially sell phones in the Low Countries yet, but drugstore chain Kruidvat will start selling products from the Chinese company this summer. Whether the Mi 8 is included is unknown.

Xiaomi announced the Mi 8 late last month. Unlike the Explorer Edition, the regular version has no fingerprint scanner in the screen and 3D facial recognition. The Mi 8 has a 6.21 “OLED screen from Samsung with a notch and a resolution of 2248×1080 pixels, an aspect ratio of 18.7:9. Xiaomi claims that the screen can reach a maximum brightness of 600 cd/m². is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845, which can be found in many high-end smartphones this year.

The rear cameras both have a resolution of 12 megapixels and a pixel size of 1.4 microns, but one is a regular camera with an f/1.8 lens, while the other has a telephoto lens with an f/2.4 aperture. The regular camera has four-axis optical image stabilization. Xiaomi has also built in dual-band GPS, a technique that should make the accuracy of positioning faster and better. In addition to the usual L1 at 1575.42MHz, the Mi 8 also supports GPS on band 5 at 1176.45MHz. The battery has a capacity of 3300mAh. Whether and when the Explorer Edition will be released in Europe is unknown.
