According to insiders, Xiaomi is developing an electric car. The smartphone maker would like to enter into a collaboration with the Chinese car manufacturer Great Wall.
Xiaomi and Great Wall would already come out with plans for an electric car next week, one of the sources reported to Reuters. The first electric car should hit the market in 2023.
The smartphone manufacturer declined to comment on the rumors on Friday. Great Wall denies having held talks with Xiaomi about a possible partnership. The car manufacturer has not previously worked with another company to bring a car to market.
According to a source, Xiaomi is targeting the general public, which probably means that we can expect a mid-range electric car.
Xiaomi would not be the first smartphone manufacturer to have the ambition to enter the car market. According to previous rumors, Apple and Huawei are also working on plans for their own car.
