Chinese smartphone maker TCL has reportedly delayed the release of a Palm-branded Android smartphone until this fall. It was previously reported that the manufacturer would release a Palm device early this year.
TCL is in talks with the American provider Verizon Wireless about the release of a Palm smartphone, Android Police reports. Verizon sold in the past, among other things, the Palm Pre 2 smartphone with webOS and before that had many Palm devices with Windows Mobile and PalmOS in its range.
Android Police has no details about the smartphone, other than that it will run on Android. TCL already confirmed last year that it would use the Palm brand, which the Chinese manufacturer acquired three years ago. The first Palm-branded TCL smartphone was supposed to be released early this year, but it didn’t.
TCL currently has devices from various brands for sale, including Alcatel and BlackBerry. The latter name has been licensed by the Chinese manufacturer from the Canadian BlackBerry. It previously developed its own smartphones, but stopped doing so a year and a half ago. BlackBerry and soon Palm are not the only brands that have returned to the smartphone market. The Finnish HMD has been marketing Android smartphones under the Nokia name since last year.
