Rumor: Forza Horizon 5 will be released in 2021 and ahead of Forza Motorsport release

A new title in the Forza Horizon game series for Xbox and PC is set to be released next year. At least, that’s what game journalist Jeff Grubb says. It would be Forza Horizon 5, which would be released before the next title in the Forza Motorsport series.

In an earlier Xbox Empire podcast episode from November 19, game journalist Jeff Grubb says from 1:25:03 a.m. that he thinks the next Forza Horizon game will come out first. He talks about ‘a weird situation’ in which the developer of the Forza Horizon games, Playground Games, may already be ready to release his game first. Grubb says he thinks he knows what the setting of Forza Horizon 5 will be, but he doesn’t want to say anything about it yet and leave that announcement for Playground or Microsoft.

If Forza Horizon 5 comes out next year and also comes earlier than the next Forza Motorsport, that can be seen as a break in the trend, because so far the Forza Motorsport and Forza Horizon games have alternated. Forza Motorsport 7 was released in October 2017 and Forza Horizon 4 in September 2018.

The arrival of a new Forza Motorsport title first would also be obvious, because a teaser for the next title in this series has already been released in the summer of this year. In a comment in July, Chris Esaki of Turn 10 Studios said the new Forza Motorsport game is in early development and will be available for Series X, Windows 10 and as part of the Xbox Game Pass. The game will run in 4k and 60fps, although it will mainly focus on the Xbox Series X.

Nothing has been released about the new Forza Horizon game yet. Forza Horizon 4 is the latest title in the more arcade-focused Forza Horizon game series. This game has recently been provided with a special update for the next-gen consoles from Microsoft, namely the Series X and S. With that update, 60fps is the new standard. On the Xbox One X it was already possible to play Forza Horizon 4 at 60fps, but that comes with a reduced resolution of 1080p. On the Series X, the racing game can now be played at 4k and 60fps and on the Series it is 60fps at 1080p.
