Archos would be working on a simple VR headset. It is a casing into which a smartphone has to be inserted. The idea is reminiscent of Google’s Cardboard and the VR One from lens maker Zeiss.
The specifications and an image of the VR glasses were put online by Arctablet, a website that is often the first to report data on new Archos products. For the time being, it would be a prototype of the French manufacturer. There is not yet a name for the product, which would appear at the end of this year for around thirty euros.
According to Arctablet, the VR glasses from Archos consist of a plastic shell into which a smartphone has to be inserted at the front. The smartphone screen is then horizontal in the direction of the face. Two plastic lenses should ensure that the screen is clearly visible to the user. As far as we know, the glasses support at least phones from 4″ to 6″.
The idea is reminiscent of Google Cardboard: here too a smartphone has to be put in a casing, but that is made of cardboard. In addition, lens maker Zeiss came up with a similar concept last week and Samsung finally offers something similar with its Gear VR.
