Apple is said to be working on a clickable keyboard for the iPad Pro with trackpad. That writes The Information. There has been support for using trackpads in the mobile operating system since iOS 13.

The keyboard with trackpad would be an accessory for this year’s new iPad Pro, writes The Information. It is unknown how Apple would build in the trackpad. The most recent iPad Pro generation is from the fall of 2018; then Apple added USB-C to its tablet, among other things. Support for mice and trackpads is in the accessibility options of iOS 13. It is not a traditional mouse pointer, but a large circle.

One of the site’s sources says that Apple has been experimenting for several years with a keyboard whose mechanical keys also have a capacitive layer and can therefore be used as a trackpad. BlackBerry smartphones have been using such a technique since the 2014 Passport.

Apple declined to comment to The Information. The site has heard the info about the keyboard from two different sources at the company. The Information has published information about unannounced products more often.
