OCZ has introduced a special edition of the Vertex SSD that has been tested and approved in Apple’s labs for use in Apple computers. However, the burst speeds of the SSDs lag behind those of the PC versions.

With the Mac edition of the Vertex SSDs, Apple owners can enjoy the performance of the fast solid-state drives in their Macbook or Macbook Pro without having to doubt whether the Vertexs are suitable for their Apple: the SSDs have been approved by Apple’s Development Center. The Vertex drives, like the previously released variants for the PC, are equipped with 64MB cache memory and an Indilinx Barefoot controller.

However, the speeds of Mac editions differ from those of the PC version. According to the Specifications The maximum read and write speeds of the Mac-Vertex SSDs, independent of capacity, are always 10MBps slower than the normal versions. The sustained write speed, on the other hand, is identical in both versions. According to an OCZ employee, the prices of the Mac Vertex’s will be ‘slightly’ higher than those of the regular variants.

In addition to SSDs for the Apple laptops, OCZ has released 2GB and 4GB sodimms for notebooks. This one ddr2- and ddr3-sodimms are available with the respective clock speeds of 667MHz and 1066MHz, and this memory is also certified for Apple laptops.
