Battleroyalegame PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds has peaked at about 670,000 concurrent players on Steam. That is double the peak of the past two months. The increase is due to the fact that the game has been free to play since Wednesday.

With the peak of 668,706 concurrent players, PUBG is still a long way from its player record on Steam. That was 3.2 million in January 2018. Based on data from SteamCharts, this is the highest peak since April 2020, when 913,075 players were counted.

On Wednesday, PUBG was made free-to-play on both consoles and PC. It is unknown whether the simultaneous player numbers on consoles have also reached a high peak as a result. Players who had a paid copy of the game before Wednesday received a Plus account with in-game extras as compensation.
