No Man’s Sky maker Hello Games announces the multiplayer fantasy game Light No Fire. According to the developer, the game contains a procedurally generated game world that is ‘bigger than Earth’. No release date has been announced yet.

Light No Fire is, according to Hello Games CEO Sean Murray, the ‘first truly open world’ in which numerous players are in the game world at the same time, he said during The Game Awards 2023. As in No Man’s Sky, the game uses instances, so players can play a limited encounter a number of other players in the multiplayer world. According to the developer, the map is persistent: bases and other traces that players leave behind must be visible to everyone and in principle last forever.

From the gameplay trailer it can be concluded that Light No Fire will be a survival game set in a fantasy world that must be fully explored. As in the previous game from Hello Games, exploration is an important element. In Light No Fire, players can climb, fly on various creatures and sail, among other things. The company has not yet provided any information about the story.

Hello Games announced its first game, No Man’s Sky, roughly ten years ago. The space exploration game would feature a practically infinite amount of procedurally generated planets where players should be able to see each other like in Light No Fire. This initially turned out not to be the case, after which Hello Games received fierce criticism. Subsequently, there was a lot of fuss about the promises made by the British game studio, not all of which turned out to be true. Since the release of the controversial game, the developer released several major updates to the game, after which the game eventually also earned a Game Award for Best Ongoing Game.
