The makers behind the popular alternative Android installer Miui have announced a new version. Miui 6 is based on Android 4.4 and has, among other things, a new interface. A beta test has now started.

The new version of Miui was made public during an event in Beijing, but the makers have also put an overview of the innovations on their website. In addition to the innovations under the hood that Android 4.4 brings, the makers of the alternative Android software have tackled the interface considerably. It should now be simpler, allowing developers to address complaints from users who found the interface cluttered. Several parts have also been redesigned.

In addition, new security features have been improved in Miui 6: there is a permission checker that checks whether apps do not do unauthorized things and a virus scanner is also included. In addition, Miui has added several optimizations to the Android code so that applications in particular should run more smoothly. Miui also introduces a new version of its battery saving software.

Miui has now started beta testing for its new software. Initially, 1000 beta testers are requested, but this number should grow to 10,000. A build should be ready at the beginning of September that will be distributed to developers, after which the software should be available for smartphones in October.

Miui is a popular custom rom for Android that is mainly characterized by its different interface. The software is available for various Android smartphones and is also included as standard with the smartphones of the Chinese company Xiaomi. Xiaomi’s devices will have access to version 6 of Miui, but users of other smartphones will also be able to install the new software.
