Last weekend, the millionth test user for Windows 10 registered, Microsoft reports. Of these, 36 percent have installed the OS on a virtual machine, while the remaining 64 percent run the software on a PC.

Microsoft says it is happy with this ratio, because it would show that many people use the operating system for a longer period of time and not just want to take a brief look at the virtual environment. Another indication of this would be that 68 percent of users would launch more than 7 applications per day. For a quarter, that would be more than 26 apps a day, while 5 percent would even open 68 apps a day.

Microsoft released the preview of Windows 10 on October 1. This is the Technical Preview of the Enterprise edition of the OS. Users need a Microsoft account to sign up for the Windows Insider program at no cost. Windows 10 in its current form mainly brings improvements for mouse and keyboard users. For example, there is a new start menu with live tiles, touchscreen apps can now be shown in window view and there is the Task View overview of open apps. The new features are discussed in the preview Windows 10 – back to start.
