Microsoft has offered Sony to continue making the Call of Duty game series for PlayStation until 2027, with the same features. According to Microsoft, that is a good offer, Sony does not think it goes far enough.
The offer means that if the current agreement expires in 2024, Microsoft would continue to make CoD games for PlayStation for the next three years, reports GamesIndustry.biz. This would involve the same games as those that would appear for Xbox.
PlayStation director Jim Ryan says the offer falls short on several points, but does not say which. “After nearly twenty years of Call of Duty on PlayStation, their offerings were inadequate on several counts and failed to consider the impact on our gamers. We want to ensure PlayStation gamers have the highest quality CoD experience and Microsoft is undermining that principle.” Microsoft said before that it had offered Sony to extend the current agreement for ‘a few years’.
Both companies are talking about Call of Duty, because Microsoft wants to acquire CoD publisher Activision-Blizzard. Authorities feared that after the acquisition, Microsoft will no longer release Call of Duty on PlayStation or make a limited version of the game for competing consoles and subscriptions. The British market authority has therefore announced that the investigation into the takeover will continue to a second phase.
