Microsoft has released a fix for Windows 10 versions that could cause problems when printing documents since a recent security update. It concerned issues with the use of physical printers, but also with software printing to PDF.

To fix the problem, Microsoft has released a number of updates for different Windows 10 versions, namely versions 1909, 1903, 1809 and 1803. For the other versions, namely 1507, 1607, 1709 and 2004, there is currently no bug fix available. Microsoft says it will release updates for the other affected versions of Windows 10 in the coming days.

The company recommends that users only install these updates manually if there are actual printing problems. That call is probably related to some issues that the updates may cause, such as internet connectivity issues when using an lte modem. This applies to the update for versions 1909 and 1903; Microsoft says it is working on a fix in a new update release.

The issue with using certain printers arose after installing updates released during Patch Tuesday on June 9. Users reported that they could no longer print from the operating system. These were KB4560960 for Windows 10 1903 and 1909, and KB4557957 for Window 10 2004, the May 2020 Update.
