The Chinese manufacturer Meizu has presented the Meizu 17 and 17 Pro. The two devices are very similar, although the Pro variant has a better camera and supports wireless charging. Both phones have support for 5G.

Meizu unveiled the phones after weeks of teasers and pre-announcements. It concerns the first 5G phones from the Chinese manufacturer.

Both devices have a 6.6-inch Super AMOLED screen, with a refresh rate of 90Hz and an aspect ratio of 19.5:9. At the top of the screen is a hole for the front camera with 20 megapixels, and the display has a built-in fingerprint scanner. The devices have support for HDR 10+.

Both phones use Sony’s 64-megapixel IMX686 sensor as the main camera. The biggest difference between the two devices are the other cameras. The Pro version also contains an 8-megapixel telephoto lens that can zoom lossless eight times, and an ultra-wide lens of 32 megapixels. With the regular version of the phone, that is a 12 megapixel ultrawide. Both devices have a Samsung Time-of-Flight sensor for calculating depth.

There is also some difference under the hood. The Meizu 17 has 8GB of lpddr4x memory, the Pro variant has 12GB of lpddr5. The devices both have a Snapdragon 865 processor, and come with 128GB or 256GB of UFS 3.1 storage.

The batteries of the phones are 4500 mAh. The regular phone can fast charge with 27W, the Pro variant with 30W.

The Meizu 17 and 17 Pro cost 3699 and 4299 yuan respectively, converted 481 and 560 euros. The phones will initially be released in China. It is not clear if, and if so when, they will go on sale in Europe.
