Processor designer MediaTek has presented the Helio P95 soc. The soc is a new version of the P90, which appeared two years ago and adds support for cameras with a maximum resolution of 64 megapixels.

The P90 supports cameras with a maximum resolution of 48 megapixels. The other change is the addition of APU 2.0, according to the soc’s webpage. That’s the part of the soc that performs calculations for things like image recognition and neural networks. This ‘artificial intelligence’ chip is 10 percent faster than the one in the P90, according to MediaTek.

The other features have remained the same. The soc has four Cortex A75 cores at 2.2GHz and four A55 cores at 2.0GHz, accompanied by a PowerVR GM 9446 GPU from Imagination at 720MHz. Manufacturers can add up to 8GB of lpddr4x memory. The soc supports up to ufs 2.1 storage.

There is no support for new network standards, such as 5g or Wi-Fi 6 over 802.11ax. The Helio P95 will probably appear in smartphones soon. The P90 has recently been mainly used in midrange smartphones, such as the Oppo Reno2 Z.
