LG will equip its upcoming G7 ThinkQ smartphone with a 6.1″ LCD with a resolution of 3120×1440 pixels and a brightness of up to 1000cd/m2. The ratio is 19.5:9 and there is a notch at the top. The software will get an option to hide that notch.

LG claims that the 6.1″ LCD of the G7 ThinkQ consumes 30 percent less than the screen of the LG G6, while the resolution and brightness are higher. According to the manufacturer, the maximum brightness is 1000cd/m², presumably it is about a peak brightness in, for example, a boost mode, or on a small part of the screen.
LG says nothing about the screen technology used, except that it is an LCD. The brightness seems to indicate that it is an RGBW format screen, with an extra white sub-pixel. LG has not yet used OLED screens in its G-series and therefore does not do so with the new model. With the LG V30, the manufacturer does use an OLED panel, but its quality was disappointing.
An image shows that the screen has a notch and that LG provides its Android software with a function to place a black bar at the top, so that the notch does not stand out. The screen panel has rounded corners and a resolution of 3120×1440 pixels; the ratio is therefore 19.5:9.
LG says that the G7 ThinkQ, like the G6, will be easy to operate with one hand. The upcoming device is likely to be as wide as the G6. The G6 has a 5.7″ screen with an 18:9 ratio and a resolution of 2880×1440 pixels. The dimensions of the new device are probably the same, only the screen is more elongated.
According to LG, the screen can display 100 percent of the dci-p3 color space. Several display options are available, including an Auto mode, in which the screen’s color rendering is adjusted according to what is being displayed.
LG has put the details about the screen online in a Korean announcement on its website. Android Central has received and published an English press release. A render appeared online on Tuesday that shows the LG G7 ThinQ from all angles. The official unveiling of the device will take place on May 2.
