LG Display and AU Optronics both work separately on LCDs with a refresh rate of 480Hz. The fastest monitors currently sold still have a refresh rate of 360Hz. Production of the 480Hz panels will start in the course of next year.

LG would, among other things, work on a 480Hz panel with a resolution of 1920×1080 pixels and a screen diagonal of 24.5″, reports TFT Central. That model would be ready for large-scale production in the fourth quarter, which suggests that monitors with that panel will not appear on the market until the first half of 2023 at the earliest. The panel would also receive DisplayHDR 400 certification. The manufacturer says it has also optimized its pixel overdrive to enable a g2g response time of 1ms without inverse ghosting.

Further specifications of LG Display’s 480Hz panel are still unknown. For example, it is not clear which panel type LG uses. Many current 360Hz monitors have a TN panel, although AU Optronics also offers an IPS-style AHVA panel with 360Hz refresh rate these days.

That same company works according to TFT Central also on 480Hz LCDs. The 480Hz panel from AU Optronics also gets a resolution of 1920×1080 pixels, although it is still unknown what the screen diagonal and panel type will be. The company is also working on a 1440p display with a 360Hz refresh rate and a 4k display with a 240Hz refresh rate. Production of the 1440p360 panel is expected to begin this year; the remaining two panels will be produced from next year.
