Kioxia introduces new SSDs with PCIe 5.0 interface, targeting enterprise servers and hyperscale data centers. The Kioxia CD8 series offers sequential read and write speeds of 7.2GB/s and 6.0GB/s.
Kioxia announces the new SSDs in a 2.5″ form factor with a height of 15mm. Random read and write speeds are 1.25 million and 200,000 iops respectively. Those speeds are achievable across two PCIe 5.0 lanes; Kioxia did the same with its existing CD7 PCIe 5.0 SSDs, which means customers can place more SSDs in a system compared to four-lane SSDs.The new CD8 SSDs also feature TLC NAND memory.
The SSDs come in variants from 960GB to 15.36TB with an endurance rating of 1 dwpd. This means that users can fill the full capacity of the SSD once a day for the lifetime of the drive. For more intensive use, Kioxia also offers configurations with an endurance of 3 dwpd. These are available in variants with 800GB to 12.8TB of storage capacity.
In addition to the new generation of SSDs, Kioxia also announces a expansion of his factory in Japan. It concerns a new production line for Kioxias BiCS flash memory. Construction will begin in April 2022 and the plant is to be completed in 2023.
