Huawei would like to focus on software instead of hardware. With software, the company would be less affected by the trade ban imposed by the US government two years ago.
The focus on software should lead to ‘more independence and autonomy’, according to Reuters, according to an internal memo. With those software products, Huawei is thinking, among other things, of the upcoming HarmonyOS, AI system Mindspore and other it systems. According to the memo, the intention is to conquer China, Africa and Europe, among other things.
Huawei has traditionally been a hardware company. It sells smartphones and network equipment, among other things, but setbacks in both categories were caused by the trade ban imposed by the US government on American companies. Smartphones are no longer allowed to contain Google services, while many governments ban Huawei from the core of mobile networks or completely ban it from mobile networks.
The trade ban has been in place for two years now, and the government of then US President Donald Trump instituted it. Joe Biden has been president of the US for four months, but Huawei is still on the blacklist. Huawei sold its subsidiary brand Honor to a consortium led by the Shenzhen government last year.
