Intel lists which games are still incompatible with Alder Lake due to DRM

Intel has published a list of games that have problems when users try to run them on Windows 11 and Windows 10 systems with next-generation Alder Lake-generation processors. The cause lies with digital rights management.

Intel shows a list of 22 games that have problems with Alder Lake on both Windows 11 and Windows 10, and a list of 29 games that do not run in combination with Windows 10. These include Anthem, Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla and Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order.

The affected games will crash if a user tries to launch them on a system with an Alder Lake processor. Intel introduced Thursday the first processors of the Alder Lake generation, or the twelfth generation Intel Core processors.

According to Intel, the cause of the problems lies with the DRM system of the games. That would wrongly recognize the efficient-cores or E-cores of the processors as a separate system and therefore prevent the games from running.

Intel is working with the game and DRM developers on patches. In mid-November, the first 11 games should get a patch with an upcoming Windows 11 update. Anyone who has software from the list of 29 games that is not compatible with the combination of Windows 10 and Alder Lake, can wait for patches, upgrade to Windows 11 or apply a so-called Scroll Lock workaround, according to Intel.

This circumvention consists of activating the Legacy Game Compatibility Mode in the bios and switching on Keyboard Scroll Lock after a reboot before running the game. In that case, the game would start. After playing, users can turn off the scrolllock again.

Bold games will get patch with W11 update in mid-November.
