Intel is adding two new processors to the Tiger Lake-U series for thin laptops. The Core i7-1195G7 and the Core i5-1155G7 are both quad cores with HyperTreading and achieve slightly higher clock speeds than the existing models.

The Core i7-1195G7 is Intel’s first economical laptop processor to hit 5GHz. According to the manufacturer, the processor achieves that speed on a single core, using Turbo Boost Max Technology 3.0. With all four cores active, the maximum Turbo speed is 4.6 GHz.

The speeds are 200MHz and 300MHz respectively higher than with the Core i7-1185G7, the former top model in the Tiger Lake-U series. The new Core i7 also gets a slightly faster Xe GPU. Like the existing Core i7 models in the Tiger Lake-U series, the new processor has 12MB L3 cache and a GPU with 96 execution units .

Intel is also adding a slightly faster Core i5 to the range. That is the Core i5-1155G7, with a maximum clock speed of 4.5GHz, or 4.3GHz on all cores. Like other i5 models, this processor has a GPU with 80 EUs and 8MB L3 cache.

According to Intel, the slightly faster processors have become possible thanks to process improvements in production. The new Core i7 and Core i5, like the other Tiger Lake-U processors, are made on the second iteration of Intel’s 10nm process, which the company calls 10nm SuperFin.

Intel presented the processors at the Computex fair, which takes place virtually this week. In a presentation Intel also put a lot of emphasis on the availability of its products. According to the manufacturer, 120 laptops with Tiger Lake-U processors were on sale at the end of last year; those CPUs were presented in September. According to Intel, 60 laptops with the Tiger Lake-H processors announced in May will also be available from June . Intel lashes out at AMD: ‘team red presented its Ryzen 5000U processors at the CES in January and review copies only became available in April’.

Intel also showed a teaser of the upcoming Beast Canyon NUC , which is equipped with a Compute Element with Tiger Lake-H processors and offers space for a large separate video card. This NUC 11 Extreme Kit should be released later this year. Intel also presented a 5G modem for laptops with eSIM.
