Details of the Intel Optane SSD 905P have appeared on the internet. According to the data, the SSD comes in two variants: as a plug-in card with blue LEDs and as a U2 model without LEDs. There may also be an m2 model.

Product pages of the Optane SSD 905P, both of the PCI-e plug-in card and the u2 version, have appeared at various suppliers, including Newegg, in recent days. Tom’s Hardware concluded this after the 905P card was already shown on a slide last year. Visually, the difference from the 900P is that the 905P card has recesses for blue LED light.

In terms of storage capacity, the 905P plug-in card will not only be available in 280GB and 480GB, just like the 900P, but also with 960GB. The u2 version of the Optane 905P also comes with 280GB, 480GB and 960GB, where the u2 version of the 900P only came out with 280GB. In addition, the SSD consumes 7W in idle mode compared to 5W of the 900P and the specifications state temperatures of 0-85°C for the 905P and 0-75°C for the 900P. Finally, the upcoming SSD seems to be a lot more robust, as can be seen from the mention that the 905P can withstand shocks of 1000G, instead of the 50G of the 900P.

In addition, ASRock has posted images of an Optane 905P model in m2-22110 form factor online. Compared to the 900P, this would have a new compact 7-channel controller and Tom’s hardware speculates that its presence is associated with lower consumption and higher performance. It is not known when Intel will officially announce the Optane drives. The company unveiled the 900P series as the first Optane SSDs for the desktop at the end of October last year. The Optane drives contain phase-change memory and must combine the advantages of dram, such as low latency, with the storage capacity of flash.
