Intel Adds Pentium and Celeron Dual Cores to Comet Lake-U Series

Intel has added a Pentium and Celeron processor to its Comet Lake-U series of laptop processors. These are dual cores with a TDP of 15W, without turbo. The clock speeds are slightly higher than the previous generation variants.

The new Pentium Gold 6405U and Celeron 5205U are on Intel’s Ark website. When Intel announced its Comet Lake-U processors in August, the cheapest model was an i3 dual-core. The new Pentium and Celeron are also dual cores, but without turbo and with less L3 cache. They also have a slower igpu and support a maximum of ddr4-2400. The Celeron also does not support HyperThreading.

Like the Whiskey Lake predecessors, the Comet Lake-U processors are made at 14nm. The new Pentium 6405U succeeds the 5405U and the Celeron 5205U is the successor of the 4205U. Those previous generation processors were clocked 100MHz lower. The Pentium Gold 6405U and Celeron 5205U will presumably make their way into low-cost laptops, all-in-ones, and Windows tablets.
