Chinese manufacturer GPD announces the upgraded XP Plus Android gaming handheld with an Indiegogo campaign. The modular console will get better soc and Wi-Fi 6 support, among other things. The Plus variant is expected to be released in August.
The Plus variant of the GPD XP is powered by a MediaTek Dimensity 1200, a soc with an Arm Mali-G77 GPU, four power-efficient Arm Cortex-A55 cores, three Cortex-A78 cores clocked at 2.6GHz and one 3GHz A78 core. From the Indiegogo page The manufacturer also shows that the console supports Wi-Fi 6 and can be charged with a power of 30 watts. Another notable improvement is the redesigned USB-C port, which now supports 4k video output at a 60Hz refresh rate.
Further specifications and design correspond exactly to the predecessor. That is, the gaming handheld keeps the same 6.81″ display with 1080p resolution, uses the same 7000mAh battery and continues to rely on 6GB of RAM.
The modular concept also remains the same with the XP Plus; on the left side of the screen is an integrated controller with a joystick, arrow keys and some extra buttons. The right side of the handheld console is modular, allowing users to connect, for example, a second joystick and ‘abxy’ buttons, or create a configuration with additional number buttons for mobas.
There will be two variants of the GPD XP Plus, namely with 128GB and 256GB UFS 3.1 storage. The performances cost during the crowdfunding campaign, so with a discount, converted respectively 314 and 347 euros. After the release, the original console cost roughly 316 euros excluding VAT and shipping costs. The crowdfunding goal has already been achieved.
