Google would not want to release the foldable Pixel Fold for the time being. The company would no longer like to release the phone this year or in 2022, Display Supply Chain Consultants writes.

That confirmation comes from sources within Google’s supply chain, DSCC writes. Those companies are said to have said that in any case, Google would not want to launch the Pixel Fold in 2021 or the first half of 2022. According to the site’s sources, Google doesn’t think the phone can compete well with other folding phones like Samsung’s Galaxy Fold. It is not clear whether this is because the market for the still very expensive folding phones is small, or whether Google was dissatisfied with the quality of the prototype.

The sources say the device will not be released in the first half of 2022, but what happens after that is not clear. Earlier there were rumors that the phone would be released in that year. Google would now also orders have been cancelled. In the meantime, the company is still working on Android 12L, an operating system that is specifically intended for folding screens.
