Google temporarily gives Chromebook buyers 1TB Drive storage

Google has launched a temporary promotion that gives buyers of a new Chromebook until January 1, 2015 to obtain 1TB of online Drive storage. The storage capacity on Drive remains free to use for two years.

The promotion only applies to new Chromebooks that consumers purchase, and eligible users must redeem the offer before January 1, Google reports. They then get 1TB of Drive storage for two years, where Chromebook users normally get 200GB of internet storage with a laptop with Chrome OS.

It’s not the first time that Google has given 1TB of Drive storage when buying a Chromebook: buyers of a Google Chromebook Pixel model also got this. However, that laptop costs more than 1000 euros, where the other Chromebooks cost between 250 and 350 euros. Users can only use the 1TB free of charge for two years, after which they have to pay the usual rate of 10 dollars per month.

Microsoft has a similar initiative with cheap Windows with Bing laptops; for example, with HP’s Stream laptop, the buyer gets 1TB of OneDrive storage for a year.
