Google may want to integrate assistant Bard into the Messages app. This way, users can start a chat with the chatbot. Bard may also receive an image generator later this week.

9to5Google looked at the latest beta apk from the Messages app. The site saw that users in that app will soon be able to start a conversation with Bard, Google’s generative AI assistant that currently only works in the browser. 9to5Google was able to identify some strings that Google uses to provide a sample prompt to show what Bard can do in Messages. For example, the assistant can give book suggestions, recognize images and come up with ideas for a meal, for example. Google is said to be planning not to release Bard as a standalone app, but to integrate it into the SMS application.

According to an introductory message, Google warns that the chats that users have are not encrypted. Google also says it uses its content to train AI models, including Bard itself. Company employees can also see that data. The warning also states that the data will be separated from the user’s Google account and that the data will be kept for three years. As with all apk analyses, it is not certain whether Google will actually implement the feature.

It also appears that Google plans to add an image generator to Bard later this week. Interestingly enough, Bard does not have that feature yet, while Google does announced in October last year for Search. An Android developer mocked a changelog in which that is stated. The image generator works based on Imagen, a technology that Google already showed in 2022.
