Google Docs, Sheets and Slides for Android get dark mode

Google is starting to make a dark mode available for Google Docs, Sheets and Slides. Dark theme support will gradually be made available to Android users from Monday.

Google says in a G Suite blog that the dark theme modifies the interface and user-generated content in such a way that it is “more usable in low-light environments.” The dark mode also leads to reduced battery use, according to Google.

The settings in the three apps mentioned will automatically adjust when the Android dark theme is set. However, the dark mode can also be set individually per app, which is independent of the setting in the OS.

Users who have set the dark mode can view what their current document or sheet would look like if the dark theme had not been chosen. This can be set in the settings of the relevant apps.

Dark mode for Docs, Sheets, and Slides will be available to all G Suite customers and users with personal accounts. Google says it will make dark mode available from Monday, but it could potentially take longer than 15 days to actually set up the feature.
