Games protected with SafeDisc and SecuRom do not work under Windows 10

Games protected with technologies such as SafeDisc and Securom are not supported in Windows 10. The drivers for them are deliberately not included for security reasons. Without working around this, such older games on disk will not be playable.

Boris Schneider-Johne of Microsoft says in an interview with Rocket Beans TV that Microsoft simply thought it was going too far to allow extensive copy protections in Windows 10. SafeDisc has already presented major security risks in the past, and Microsoft has now closed that door. . Alternatively, Schneider-Johne notes that several developers and publishers have patched these copy protections from their software, and that GOG.com already offers such older games without DRM.

Securom and SafeDisc were widely used in the past decade to combat piracy in PC games. Many popular titles from that time, such as The Sims, Battlefield 1942, and Mass Effect, use such protections. In addition to the solutions Schneider-Johne mentions, users can sign the drivers themselves and NGOHQ has developed a tool that helps users with this. It is unclear whether that tool actually works in Windows 10. Finally, it is possible to dual boot an older Windows version and play the games in it.
