Firmware update: Sony Playstation 3 2.50

Sony’s development department has again been given the green light to release a firmware upgrade for the Playstation 3, as we have already written in this news item. This time the version number has arrived at 2.50, which includes support for the PS3 Official Bluetooth Headset, along with an improved interface where the Trophies are displayed. The included list of customizations states the following:

Since October 15, 2008, an update to the PS3 system software is available. If you install it on your PS3 system, you will have version 2.50 of the system software and the following features have been updated. To download version 2.50 of the PS3 system software, you need a minimum of 140 MB of free space on your PS3’s Hard Drive (System Update) or on a removable storage media (PC Update).

Users:

• You can now set the PS3 system to turn off automatically after a background download or content installation has been completed. This option is available when you have the system under [Gebruikers] > [Schakel het systeem uit] during download or installation.

Settings:

• [BD/DVD-instellingen] hot now [Video-instellingen].
• below [Video-instellingen] are the options [Bioscoop omzetting] and [Upscale] to respectively [BD/DVD bioscoop omzetting] and [BD/DVD-upscalen] renamed.
• The options [Sequentieel afspelen] and [50 Hz video-uitvoer] are under [Video-instellingen] added.

• When playing BD (BDAV) and DVD content, the so-called ‘chroma upsampling’ technique is now automatically selected and applied based on the movement of objects in the video to enhance the images.

Game:

Network:

• Adobe® Flash® Player 9 support is on [Internetbrowser] added.

PlayStation®Network:

• You can still automatically sign out of PlayStation®Network and you can also disable automatic sign in, but the procedure for this has changed.
