Firmware Update: Apple iPod Touch 2.0

Following the 2.0 update for the iPhone, Apple has also released the 2.0 firmware for the iPod Touch. The version number of the firmware for the iPod Touch has been aligned with that of the iPhone, and can therefore be identified by the build number 5A347. The firmware can be downloaded from iTunes, after which the update will be installed on the iPod Touch. Updating the iPod Touch via iTunes will be a bit more difficult because of the heavy workload on Apple’s servers.

Unlike the iPhone 2.0 update, the iPod Touch’s 2.0 firmware can only be downloaded for a fee. Apple asks an amount of 7.99 euros for the update, which also consists of the so-called January Update. The January Update includes Mail, Stock, and Weather programs that cost $17.99 for iPod Touch players running firmware version 1.1.2 or earlier. The 2.0 update for the iPod Touch brings a lot of changes. For example, it is possible to download third-party applications via the App Store and run them on the iPod Touch.
